Do you have fall family traditions?  Some families go apple picking, participate in chili cool-offs, or go football tailgating.  Our family has a tradition of going to the pumpkin patch every year.  As a kickoff to my family’s fall tradition, I’d like to share our visit to the Bracken UMC Pumpkin Patch.

My family has visited the Bracken UMC Pumpkin Patch every year for the past 7 years.  It’s located on 20377 FM 2252 in San Antonio, Texas.  The hours are from 9am until 3pm every day, and there is no entry fee.  I find that if you go during the week around 10:00am, there are less crowds.  We had plenty of time to browse around and take pictures without waiting in long lines.

The Bracken United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch started by the youth group years ago, to raise funds for mission trips.  The patch has grown tremendously.  All the money from the pumpkins purchased raise funds for youth programs, a fall festival, and donations for a food pantry in the area.

One of the first things we do when we arrive is grab a wagon, which are available to patrons visiting, and head to the pumpkin photo displays. They have a variety of picture backdrops, including a beautiful display with hay and fall decorations that the whole family can participate in.  After a few minutes of making my kids smile and sit still for a few seconds while I snap fantastic pics, its time to move on to pumpkin picking.

What I love about this pumpkin patch is that its fun for the whole family.  I have two older boys, so pumpkin picking isn’t their thing anymore.  There is an area where older kids and adults can play checkers, cornhole, and a variety of outdoor games for entertainment to pass the time.

During the month of October, they have several events on the weekends.  On Saturdays and Sundays when you visit, your family can enjoy train rides, trick or treating, a fall festival, a pet costume contest, crafts and a whole lot more.

This visit, like every year, was amazing for our family.  I look forward to reading your comments below on your fall family traditions.
